Bangladesh National Fruit Jack Fruit .Jackfruit is my national fruit. Its local name is kathal (Bangladesh) and its scientific name is Artocarpus heterophyllus. It is also known as jack tree, jakfruit, or sometimes simply jack or jak. The fruit usually grown in hilly areas. The jackfruit tree is a widely cultivated and popular food item. jackfruit was cultivated in India 3000 to 6000 years ago. India is the first positional producer of the world .Bangladesh is second.  It has also been widely cultivated in southeast Asia such as India Bangladesh, Indonesia etc. Jackfruit is absolutely one of a kind tropical fruit recognized for its unique shape, and size. The fruit varies widely in size, weigh from 3 to 30 kg, and has oblong or round shape, measuring 10 cm to 60 cm in length, 25 to 75 cm in diameter. While unripe fruits are green and ripe is light brown .

The green fruit or unripe fruit is used as a curry .Ripe fruit generally uses as fruit. It is very sweet and delicious to eat. Its seed is dried and preserved to be later used in curry.

  • 100 gm of edible jackfruit bulbs provide 95 calories.
  • Jackfruit is rich in dietary fibre, which makes it a good bulk laxative. The fibre content helps to protect the colon mucous membrane by binding to and eliminating cancer-causing chemicals from the colon.
  • The fresh fruit has small but significant amounts of vitamin-A, and flavonoid pigments such as carotene-ß, xanthin, lutein, and cryptoxanthin-ß.
